Partnership and Collaboration
As CentraState Healthcare System works to fulfill our mission we forge partnerships locally, regionally and statewide to make efficient use of resources and extend our reach to positively impact more lives in our communities.
Some examples include our 30-year history working with the Lions Clubs. In 2003, Lions Clubs International, CentraState Healthcare Foundation, and CentraState Healthcare System bought a new $70,000 van to provide mobile health services for our HAC.
In 2005, the Lions Eye, Ear and Diabetes Screening Center, Lions Clubs international, Community Foundation of Monmouth County, and our Foundation made a $60,000 joint gift to buy the latest technology for cataract surgery at CentraState Medical Center.
Another community partner is Camp Quality New Jersey. In 2004, CentraState became the flagship hospital for this year-round support program for children with cancer and their families, founded by the Freehold-Sunrise Optimist Club. CentraState hosts training sessions and committee meetings and provides staff for the camp and committees, and donates medical supplies. The cost for this support is nearly $9,000 per year. In 2001, CentraState, the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey and the Monmouth County Office on Aging joined to form the Monmouth County Chronic Care Consortium. Three years later, through the work of our Foundation, the consortium earned a $318,000 grant from The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to expand an internet-based, telehealth service for disease management.
The program allows homebound seniors with chronic ailments to participate in their own care using a television or computer to provide a medication inventory, remote monitoring of vital signs, nutrition plans, and more. Today, the “Share and Support” TeleCare Connection program serves up to 50 clients, all of whom are past patients at CentraState.
Investing in Tomorrow’s Healthcare Providers Today
W e believe that enhancing classroom education with clinical learning opportunities encourages students to become the next generation of healthcare providers. Under the auspices of the Community Advisory Council, an arm of our Foundation, more than 160 students in the Freehold Regional High School District’s Medical Sciences Program participate in intern and extern programs at CentraState each year. Students benefit from career orientation and lectures, and learn from staff member mentors about caring for patients.
In 2005, DCH Freehold Toyota and Norkus Enterprises began funding $1,000 Medical Sciences Scholarships— awarded through our Foundation—to two high school seniors enrolled in the Medical Sciences program. The Foundation also awards college scholarships of $2,000 each to three high school girls through its Ladies LinksSM charity golf tournament.
